Super Bowl LII

25

If you’re a sports fan, you’ve probably been following the Super Bowl all season long. The game’s been held every year since 1995, and is known for its thrilling final play as the players toss the football and attempt to knock the ball down in a contest to win the championship. This year’s super bowl will feature some of the most competitive teams in the NFL.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII on Sunday. Nick Foles led an 89-yard drive to put the Eagles in position to win.

With just under three minutes left in the third quarter, the Patriots stymied the Eagles in the red zone. After the defense held serve on a five-yard pass from Brady to Rob Gronkowski, the Eagles were able to take the lead.

After a few quick plays, the Eagles got the ball to Nick Foles on third-and-goal from the New England 40-yard line. He threw a 14-yard completion to Ertz, and then a 17-yard pass to Nelson Agholor.

On the next play, Foles found tight end Trey Burton in the right side of the end zone for a touchdown. It was the first TD of the game.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have a long and successful history in the National Football League (NFL). They are based in the Greater Boston area, and compete in the American Football Conference (AFC) East division.

In the NFL, the Super Bowl is generally considered to be the culmination of a championship season. This year, the Patriots are set to defend their title against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Patriots have played in eight Super Bowls, including four against the Rams. Tom Brady, the team’s quarterback, has already won six Super Bowls, and he is the team’s all-time leader in pass attempts and completions.

Tom Brady’s passing numbers have improved over the past few years, and he has become one of the more reliable passers in the league. He has already surpassed Terry Bradshaw’s ring total.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are currently ranked number two in the NFL in offense. They have NFL-leading receiver Cooper Kupp, quarterback Matthew Stafford, and running back Todd Gurley.

In the Super Bowl, they are favored to win the game. However, they lost to the New England Patriots 13-3. And now, they are without their top tight end Tyler Higbee. But their defense is strong and the kickers have been solid in the postseason.

Their rushing attack has been a strength in the postseason. They averaged 2.9 yards per carry during the postseason. That is second in the league, behind the New England Patriots.

They also had a strong secondary. The defense handled Odell Beckham Jr. and Van Jefferson. One of their biggest edge disruptors is Von Miller. He led the team in sacks and interceptions.

New York Jets

The New York Jets were the first team to ever win a Super Bowl, but they haven’t done so since they defeated the Baltimore Colts in 1969. They’ve had some success in the 1980s, but it’s been a long time since they’ve reached the playoffs.

While the team’s record has been decent, they’ve failed to reach the playoffs in recent years. But this year, the Jets have found some success. During their six-game winning streak, they’ve had two victories over the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers, and they’ve also shown their strength on defense.

Their defensive line is their strongest unit. Despite allowing 326 total yards per game, they have only given up 19 points. This is one of the best units in the league.

Cowboys

Cowboys have played in three Super Bowls. However, they have lost the three games in which they were underdogs. In fact, they have only won four playoff games in the last fifteen years.

They haven’t won in the Coliseum since 1995. And they haven’t made the NFC Championship game in the last 21 years.

The Raiders haven’t appeared in the Super Bowl in fifteen years. But they’ve been humbled this season. Their schedule is a little tougher than the Titans’. So they’re not out of the hunt just yet.

Before the game, the two teams performed in pre-game events. Anita Bryant sang the national anthem and the Southeast Missouri State Golden Eagle Band played.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Craig Morton passed for 1,819 yards and 15 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. He was aided by the strong offensive line.
