River 105.9, Connecticut’s classic hits radio station, plays music from the 70s through to the 90s and airs news, weather forecasts, and local sporting events, as well as contests and giveaways for its listeners. Listeners can tune in on mobile phones, computers, and tablets.
WNYC Radio announced in July 2009 their acquisition of an FCC license for 105.9 FM, related equipment, and the WQXR brand and website from The Times Company for Univision’s Spanish-language WCAA 105.9. This purchase was funded by a $15 Million campaign led by Emanuel Ax and WNYC board members Nicki Newman Tanner and Martha Fleischman to raise 15 Million dollars to make this happen.
Beasley Media Group owns and operates this radio station as part of their family of stations, which includes WXXI-AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, WDIV-FM 101.3 (Detroit), WGBH-FM 91.5 (Boston), WEOS-FM 89.5 (Geneva), and WITH-FM 90.1 in Ithaca – all owned by Beasley Media Group.
